Ten Years of Tapetown Sessions (2016–2026)
Tapetown Studio is a mixing, mastering and live recording studio in Aarhus, Denmark, founded in 2011 by Rasmus Bredvig. Since 2016 we have made the Tapetown Sessions, which are recorded fully live, with no overdubs. Ten years on, our session credits list 75 sessions with 56 artists. They run from Ulrika Spacek, Iceage, The Murder Capital and Mikal Cronin to Elias Rønnenfelt, shinyhunt and four sessions we recorded for KEXP. Tapetown has studios in Aarhus and on Djursland, Denmark.
Here are the ten years, era by era. Every credit, with a link to each video, is in Tapetown Session Credits; the videos are on our YouTube channel. Years are the years the videos came out.
At a glance
We recorded and mixed 50 of the sessions in our studios at Lydhavnen in Aarhus and 11 on location. The other 14 were recorded by other engineers and mixed by us.
Four are KEXP sessions, recorded and mixed on location at Dypång in Aarhus during SPOT Festival 2022.
Our YouTube channel, started in July 2016, has passed 3.7 million views.
Elias Rønnenfelt's "Live at Musikhuset" (2025) has passed 340,000 views, and his two solo sessions together more than 440,000.
Most sessions were mastered by Emil Thomsen at ET Mastering.

2016: Tapetown Live Singles
The series started in 2016 as Tapetown Live Singles, with SANT ("Indimellem") and Tin Can Telescope ("Verge & Virtues"). Both were recorded in our studios at Lydhavnen, the studio community in Aarhus that Rasmus Bredvig started in 2012 with Emil Thomsen, Anders Boll, Magnus Vad, Carsten Heller, Jacob Erland and others. Rasmus Bredvig recorded and mixed SANT's session. Pacific Swell's "Clean Gypsies" followed as a Tapetown Live Single in January 2017. The live-single idea didn't stick with people. When the new studio is built, we may try some new formats next to the live sessions.
2017–2018: Live at Tapetown, at Lydhavnen
The first live session in the form we still use was Blood Child's, recorded at Tapetown during SPOT Festival 2017 and released shortly after. Boundaries recorded one at the same festival. In these years we called the series Live at Tapetown, and some credits say Tapetown Session; on YouTube they are all titled Tapetown Sessions today. Recorded at Lydhavnen; recording and mix by Rasmus Bredvig unless noted:
Ulrika Spacek: "Mimi Pretend" and "Everything, All the Time" (2017)
Pale Honey: "The Heaviest of Storms" and "Get These Things Out of My Head" (2017)
The Telescopes: "You Can't Reach What You Hunger" and "Something in My Brain" (2017)
The Fresh & Onlys: "Wolf Lie Down" (2017)
Dead Vibrations: "Reflections" and "Chemical Hug" (2017)
Peter Sommer & Tiggerne: "Sand Kærlighedshistorie" (2017)
Moaning: "Artificial" (2018), recorded on 24 August 2018 during the band's European tour (Destroy//Exist premiered it)
Baby in Vain: "One Feather" and "I Have Your Eyes" (2018), recorded and mixed by Anders Boll and Rasmus Bredvig
Hater: "Blushing" (2018)
At SPOT Festival 2018 we hosted two label specials at Lydhavnen: Crunchy Frog with ONBC ("Copenhagen") and Sista Bossen, and Escho with Collider ("Glockster"), all recorded and mixed by Anders Boll and Rasmus Bredvig.
In 2018 MusicTech ran a studio interview with Tapetown, and Scandinavia Standard profiled the studio and the Live at Tapetown series.
2019–2021: Tapetown Sessions
The series settled on the name it still has: Tapetown Sessions. Recorded at Lydhavnen; recording and mix by Rasmus Bredvig unless noted:
Les Big Byrd: "A Little More Numb" and "Geräusche" (2019). Clash premiered "A Little More Numb", recorded before a Danish show.
Mavourneen: "Bliss" and Dark Times: "Give" (2019), both from SPOT Festival 2019
Mint Field: "Ella Se Queda" and "Jardín de la Paz" (2019)
Dumb: "Content Jungle" (2019) and "My Condolences" (2020)
Heathe: "On the Tombstones; The Symbols Engraved pt. 2" (2019)
The Entrepreneurs: "Say So!" and "Sail Away" (2019)
MaidaVale: "Dark Clouds" (2019); Bull: "Eugene" (2019) and "Perfect Teeth" (2020)
Why Sun: "Traffic" and "Eastern Love" (2019), recorded at Tapetown and mixed by Rasmus Bredvig
Mikal Cronin: "I've Got Reason" (2020)
The Murder Capital: "For Everything" (2020), covered by 13 publications in six countries
Leizure: "Cherry Kisses" (2020); Joyce: "Tomme Ord" (2020)
Iceage: a seven-song set, from "Catch It" to "Gold City" (2021)
The Psychotic Monks: "Coherent Appearance / Jam" (2021)
Our first session recorded away from the studio also came out in 2021: Boundaries' "Erosion", recorded at To Øl City by Laurine Brugman and Rasmus Bredvig.
2022: on location, and KEXP at SPOT Festival
In May 2022 we recorded and mixed four KEXP sessions on location at Dypång in Aarhus during SPOT Festival: Rigmor, Brimheim, JJ Paulo and Jeuru. Jonna Aspeklev and Rasmus Bredvig recorded them, and Rasmus mixed them with Jonna assisting. They are on KEXP's YouTube channel. KEXP chose Tapetown for audiovisual production at SPOT Festival.
At the same festival, Christian Popp, Christian Askehave and Rasmus Bredvig recorded Sauna Senere ("Venter") and a live set by Joe & the Shitboys in Maritza-salen at FO-byen in Aarhus (both out in 2023). Sauna Senere's "Kødsovs" (2022) was recorded in a bowling alley, Kuglen & Keglen in Odder, by Christian Popp and Rasmus Bredvig.
Also from 2022: Why Sun's "Such a Meeting", recorded at Lydhavnen, and Bambara's "Mythic Love" and "Birds", recorded by Christian Alex Petersen at Grapehouse Studio in Copenhagen and mixed by Rasmus Bredvig.
2023–2026: SPOT Festival, concert halls and "Tapetown, on location"
We have recorded or mixed sessions from every SPOT Festival since 2022.
Lydhavnen, SPOT Festival 2023: Hiraki ("Common Coma", "The Idealist", "Wonderhunt", "The Alarmist", 2023), recorded live with an audience, and Mary Anne's Polar Rig ("The Way That I'm Feeling" and "Dopamine Detox", 2024). Recording: Christian Popp, Christian Askehave, Jonna Aspeklev and Rasmus Bredvig.
Aarhus Bowlinghal, SPOT Festival 2024 and 2025: Christian Popp and Christian Askehave recorded Elias Rønnenfelt ("Worm Grew a Spine", "Doomsday Childsplay", "River of Madelaine", 2024), Sauna Senere and Pære Banal (2025), and shinyhunt ("city of no one") and Nausia ("Golf Ball") (2026).
Musikhuset Aarhus: William Smith recorded Elias Rønnenfelt's "Live at Musikhuset" (2025) in the Great Hall at SPOT Festival 2025; Troels Holm and Rasmus Bredvig mixed it. Gary Payne recorded Angående Mig at GRIMFEST, also at Musikhuset (2024).
Other venues: Soaphorse at Frigjort Festival 2024 in Christiania (2025); deathcrash at Vera in Groningen, Netherlands, Patina at Train in Aarhus, A Good Year at Voxhall in Aarhus during SPOT Festival 2026, and Bænch at Engelsholm and RADAR (all 2026).
Tapetown, on location: Meejah x Hiraki ("All Contrast" and "Dead Calls", 2026), recorded by Troels Damgaard Holm and Tim Wöbke, and Kejser ("Paps Garage", 2026), recorded by Troels Holm and Tim Rosen.
After 11 years at Lydhavnen we moved on, to build something different. Tapetown still records. The mix studio is in central Aarhus; recording happens on Djursland, outside Aarhus; and our new 400 m² building at Friland opens in 2027 (studio build). Sessions happen wherever it makes sense: on location, at venues and in studios, in Denmark and abroad.
What "fully live, no overdubs" means
Every Tapetown session is recorded fully live, with no overdubs. In practice:
The band plays the song together, and that performance is the recording.
Nothing is added afterwards: no overdubbed parts, no re-sung vocals.
No default tuning, quantizing or cleanup. Imperfections that carry feeling stay in.
We mix from the room and audience mics outwards, with the bleed, the crowd and the dynamics left in.
The room is part of the sound, including rooms with difficult acoustics.
